Morrisons have been quick out of the blocks with their festive treats, and their in-store bakery ranges are in on the act too. Spartan in their packaging, these rely on their freshness to be the main selling point.
I do rather like a puff pastry pie. Lots of thin layers of butteriness, that collapse together and melt away when you bite into the pie, giving a proper salty hit to contrast with the sweet filling. Granulated sugar on the top adds crunch, and I suspect a brush of melted butter was added before baking.
The filling is perhaps a bit spartan, but it has some booze added, and on balance, maybe it works out ok, as the base is thin, and would probably give way if there were too many more vine fruits inside. The only downside is that these lose their freshness quite quickly… but eating them all in a day is not a huge challenge, to be fair.
