Pretty parcel-type packaging, with the box photo ‘Serving Suggestion’ including a sprig of Norway Spruce on the plate. Another star on a star, five-pointed on five-pointed this time around. Almost all the supermarket pies this year have featured this approach… I wonder whether there’s a huge factory with a pastry 3D printer…
A suggestion of a sugar sprinkle. But not enough to make a difference to the mouth feel.
First bite into the pastry is a little underwhelming, lacking in salt and butter, and a bit lardy, in fact, not especially short. The mincemeat is pleasingly well-spiced, and not too syrupy. Fresh with a tang of citrus too.
These have a no-nonsense feel to them: they’re not that deep, but there are no air gaps above the filling. Very easy to have two of these – another good example of a session pie.
Good value, these. And being alcohol-free, these are a good choice for the younger members of the family.
