Very simple packaging, no frills. Their purpose is to be boxed up, fast and fresh from the in-store bakery, and put on the shelves as soon as possible…
Quite a compact profile. Perhaps closer in recipe and style to what your grandmother might make, using a shallow bun tin. The pastry on these is short, buttery and crumbly, and the decent dredge of icing sugar adds a lovely feel and texture.
Bite in, and it’s kind of like a mincemeat shortbread sandwich – the filling is the minor component here. It has some decent spice, and the vine fruits were plump and warming.
In comparison to a lot of the other offerings this year, these are a strong contender for less is more. They work very well with afternoon tea, and if you can grab a pack whilst they’re still warm, all the better.
